Just finished watching the Brothers Grimm which had a fairy tale as its theme (telling of the brothers' efforts to understand villagers fears of the forest) and how incidents became part of their tales.
Are CGI artists part of the film dressers guild? When you look at the credits, what is the title all those people use?

The premise had so many possibilities and then tried to cover them all. When I become more interested in the sets rather than the story, something missed the mark. You are correct, the filmmakers couldn't decide whether to play it as a comedy with elements of action and didn't really tell the story of fable writing. I am not sure of the time period that the Grimm Brothers lived in...this film indicates it was during the French Napoleonic era. I wonder if they had difficulties with the church, establishments, writing about demons and whether the royal houses saw their reigns mimicked in the tales.
I really dislike "going for the laugh" scenes...such as in Dances With Wolves, the scene with K. Costner and the horse, "bad horse, bad horse" and even Peter Jackson for allowing a comedic moment with the "dwarf tossing" mention scene. But I am in awe of Mr. Jackson's 3 film vision and the good sense of allowing the prose of Tolkien to dominate. The films' sets were done with thought and very well indeed.

I completely agree with you, MotherEarth. I hate slapstick when it's out-of-place, which is often the case. Recently I've been exposed to a series of romantic comedies by my wife, and for reasons I can't discern, half of them involve a cute little wild animal attacking one of the characters. This is supposed to be funny, but it really detracts from the movie. Where do they find these screen writers?
I also agree with both your and Firefly's assessment of the Brothers Grimm movie. It missed the mark in many ways.

Another film which is on DVD..with Johnny Depp, the LIBERTINE which is a profane type movie that did have a redeeming moment for the main character. I am not familiar with Charles II's reign and era but using this film as a reference, the Puritan's morals were done away with with a vengeance. The film lighting was kept dark and I guess I missed it, but why was he so against the king? It seemed to be personal rather than by edict.
Anyone know (not Depp's politics) of his contribution to the film he is involved with? The films may be quirky, but he does make his charactors believeable.
