thanks for the welcome I second the vote for The Godfather and Hotel Rwanda. I thoroughly enjoyed those two movies.
Welcome, bluehorus! It's good to hear a new voice, so to speak.

Fargo is such an awesome movie. I lived in Minneapolis for 4 years and let me tell you, whenever I miss Minneapolis I have to put this movie in. Darn tootin'! Being a runner, I have to side with Maximus on Chariots of Fire I also share Gee's love of William H. Macy. I don't know a thing about Minnesota or North Dakota, but I loved Fargo. Oh yeah, fur shuuuuurrrrrr...

I loved Fargo. I am also fond of the movie Office Space for a good laugh. I recently watched I am David and enjoyed it.
Despite the horrendous acting, I have to admit that I will also count Star Wars among my favorite films.

Let's not forget Blade Runner! It's a true sci-fi classic.

I second that. Another great Harrison Ford movie. Ford's probably one of my favorite actors, if you couldn't tell. Hard to name a movie he hasn't been good in, even if the movie itself wasn't that great. Can't imagine anyone else in the role of Han Solo or Indiana Jones.

I should have mentioned BladeRunner as well. Great flick.
How about Dune? (Okay, suppress your snickering.)

I never saw the 1984 movie, but I did see the 2000 mini series, as well as its 2003 sequel, Children of Dune. Both I thought were very good, which goes to show that some adaptations of books into movies can do better made for tv rather than feature films. But Dune is a classic sci-fi story, so it's got my vote as a favorite.

I was trying to think of comedies that are truly funny start to finish:
Aside from the aforementioned Office Space,
Sixteen Candles Ferris Bueller's Day Off It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (though this one tapers off) Stripes (also tapers off)
My parents are partial to Baby's Day Out. I've never seen this one.

I think Superman Returns has now officially won the "MegaBucks lost" race.

I'm thinking of moving films a category of its own, as it seems to be a popular subject to discuss. Any objections/comments?

How about "Films, TV and Music" so we can praise or dis each?
