I can hear you yawning already, but since we're sharing adventures, I thought I'd throw mine out there. Several years ago I rode Route 1 from Los Angeles to Leggett (Mendocino County) on my cruiser. Talk about spectacular scenery. The Big Sur Coast was amazing, but a bit nervewracking when you consider the sheer drop from one side of the highway. Many people on this site seem oriented towards the arts, and I can think of no better place than an artist to live than near Big Sur. Just waking up and looking around every morning would be inspiration enough. And of course, Carmel is a renowned artists' retreat. A bit expensive for my tastes, but a charming town. No need to describe San Francisco, or the thrill of riding over the Golden Gate. Once we crossed the bridge, though, it was as if we had entered a different state. Quiet, beautiful, pastoral: it was everything that Southern California isn't. Bodega Bay was gorgeous, as was the drive along the Sonoma Coast. Towns were few and far between, and the views were always spectacular. I highly recommend the ride (or drive) to any and everyone.

That's my kind of adventure. Sounds pretty dreamy to me. The California coast is truly spectacular. I could handle living in Carmel.

Yeah, Big Sur is pretty much tops in my book for natural beauty. I've done a few great hikes in the area.
