Rim to Rim Run
« on: August 29, 2006, 09:59:35 AM »

I can't claim to have hung 500 feet above the ground by one hand without ropes, but I've had a somewhat less exciting adventure of my own.  Last year I ran from one rim of the Grand Canyon to the other.  It's about 22 miles and 11,000 feet of elevation change.  I've run several marathons, but this is far more challenging.  The switchbacks on the way up are endless.  I don't think any amount of hill running could have prepared me for that.  The views were spectacular, and the Colorado was beautiful in a silty way.  I couldn't walk for days afterwards, but I'm glad I did it.

Life is too short...to hear of such a run is exhausting just to think of it!

You and Lance Armstrong are to be envied.  The change in altitudes alone
would do most of us in.  Does Vit C really help the muscles recover?

I also find this feat of endurance most remarkable.  I can scarcely make it around the block without losing my wind.  I have had the luxury of visiting the Grand Canyon, and I thought it was incredibly beautiful.  I'll leave running up and down those canyon walls to our runner friend.

I think such an event, held annually, would be well worth it.  We might have some long-distance runners being able to place in the Olympics doing this.  Get some sponsors, cuz I think you're on to something.

This sounds like an amazing run. I was a middle-distance runner in high school, and the thought of 22 miles up and down canyon walls is just too much for my mind to handle.

I do remember reading about a race that starts in Death Valley and ends part of the way up Mount Whitney. You might be a good candidate for that crazy race.

I think I'd rather hang by one hand 500 feet up.   Tongue  I'm very impressed by your endurance.  I couldn't do it.
