US Election '08
« on: January 09, 2008, 07:23:47 PM »

Seeing as things have been pretty quiet lately, I figured I'd take a shot at starting up some talk about this year's US presidential election. At the moment, the parties' primaries are just getting under way, with Iowa and New Hampshire having had their say about who should lead either the Democratic or Republican party during the presidential race next fall. The results have been interesting, and as it is still very early, no one candidate has really jumped ahead of the pack on either side.

So, I'll just consider myself an instigator of debate and refrain from any lengthy political arguments for the moment. But I figure out of the two thousand some odd members in this forum there ought to be plenty who'd like to weigh in on the current state of US politics, both people here in the States and observers abroad.

And, just in case an impartial introduction isn't enough to get a good debate going, I'll go ahead and say I'm leaning towards Obama so far. Both his stand on issues and his ability to convey his ideas through writing and speaking are impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the state primaries shape up in the coming months.

I have decided to vote for a rich person who's totally out of touch with the American public. Unfortunately, that hasn't narrowed down the list any.  Cheesy

If I had the option I'd probably go for Giuliani.  I suppose if I send in a vote to Florida they won't ask any questions.

I don't hold out much hope for Obama - the current economic climate means that voters won't be keen on taking risks.  So that may even rule out Giuliani on ethnic grounds, too.

I'm hoping for a Democrat as the lesser of two evils, but I think you'll get a Pepublican.  As to which one, I leave that to your torturously convoluted nomination 'system'.

www.votechooser.com apparently lists issues of major importance and lets you choose your stance and see how that matches with the nominees' stances.
