Well, I've just signed up and must confess my complete ignorance as to the purpose of this site! if anyone cares to enlighten me, that would be great. I clicked on this link in the 'national geographic' site and I'm in a bit of a rush so don't really have the time to peruse, right now.
Incidentally, I'm a photographer. My hours are determined by the laws of physics My boss - the visible world.

Besides just being a group of people who like to chatter away on a discussion board about anything that stimulates our brains, we also use Trumalia as a search engine. Truly brainy members, like JOSH, who is our reigning champion, try to solve the enigmas that are associated with the site. I would consider myself among a smaller group of artists who like the work that is posted on the site, and also like chit-chatting about art in general.
We're a diverse bunch. We hope you decide to join us. As far as I know, we don't have any professional photographers among our ranks yet, so you can consider yourself a first! Welcome!

Beautiful! So glad you have joined us. Has your poems been translated to the art-work world? Seems to be a natural!

A poet! I looked at your sample poems, and I loved Celibate. Congratulations on your fine work. We hope to hear more from you.

Thank you both for the kind words.
None of my work has been illustrated, aside from a couple of line drawings in journals. Thanks for asking.
Best,
John

LOL, Brian, If there's anything your gonna learn from being involved with this forum is that you're gonna have to be a bit more verbose. But welcome all the same!

I suppose I should belatedly introduce myself. In real life, my name is Dan. Yes, it is short for Daniel and I've often been told I'm more a Daniel than a Dan. I don't own a pair of blue jeans. I prefer suits. I do drink beer, especially as 'summer is acomin' in', but nothing too popular. (Dans don't generally quote mediaeval songs and if they have to write 'mediaeval', they don't spell it like that.) Mostly I like wine. I don't play Dan-type sports, football or cricket (see below). I like books and jazz. I cry when I hear beautiful music, Puccini is the worse/best - and Adiós Nonino by Astor Piazzolla.
I was born in New Zealand but live in Melbourne. That's Australia; not Florida or Canada. Some of my past has received an airing in the Books forum, i.e., 10 years a a Dominican friar, two as a priest, subsequent stint as a taxi driver, currently a secondary teacher of philosophy, english, history and science (see under Thomas Aquinas).
My consort of 14 years goes by the name of MissMurgatroyd in Trumalia land. Her avatar is an actual picture of her posing as Theda Bara. (Gorgeous, huh?). I'm finally making an honest woman of her in December.
I did a PhD in Philosophy in the area of aesthetics: 'The enamour'd judge: Disinterestedness and the Nude is Western Art'. Not a glorious effort but it worked. Last year, I earned my black belt in karate (along with Miss Murgatroyd). So yes, I am a dan. Miss Murgatroyd describes us as the Niles and Frasier of our karate club. We have also dabbled in tai chi, taekwondo and pentjak silat. We have recently taken up fencing. That is classical fencing, not sport fencing. Our master has some training in historical fencing so some time down the track, we'll learn rapier and dagger. I'm a Renaissance man, not really interested in the earlier stuff. In the meantime, we are working on foil.
Our greatest passion is tango. We have been learning for just over two and a half years. Just starting to get the hang of it. As Dr Candomblé, I am DJ for a fortnightly milonga (tango dance party). As you'd expect, we dream of travelling to Buenos Aires so that we can, to paraphrase the great Tom Waits, 'tango till we're sore'. In the meantime, we do that several nights a week in Melbourne.
